Building More Homes

Building More Homes

Revolutionising home building with a $40 million Build Better Fund.

What we are proposing...

The Liberals will introduce a housing productivity package to become a world leader in building better and faster.

We’re backing cutting-edge construction methods to get more South Australians into homes, quicker.

Housing affordability has declined dramatically under Labor. Adelaide is now the sixth least affordable capital city to buy in the world, behind only Sydney in the national picture.

The time to build a house in South Australia is getting longer. In 2021, it took an average of 10 months to build a home from approval to completion. Now, in 2026, it’s nearly 16 months.

The longer homes take to build, the worse the housing crisis becomes, and it’s clear that new solutions are needed in this space.

To catch up on the rapidly increasing demand for housing in our state we need to speed up the rate at which we build.

This includes low interest finance and grants for builders who are committed to investing in fixed plant and equipment here in SA, to give our builders access to the cutting-edge technology to pursue Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), like 3D printing and modular construction.

Some builders in the MMC space are boasting a 50% reduction in build times, as well as positive environmental impacts.

This package will unlock the future of building in our state. It will help our builders get access to world leading tools and facilities, so we can build homes for the future, create jobs for the future and be a nation leader in residential construction.

This is part of our plan for a more affordable South Australia.
