Fairer Fees for Duck Hunting

Fairer Fees for Duck Hunting

Reversing Labor’s unjust hunting licence fee increase.

What we are proposing...

A Hurn Liberal Government will rescind the excessive and unjustified scheduled fee increases for duck hunting licence fees and restore a fair, stable system that respects lawful hunters and works collaboratively with hunting groups.

South Australia’s hunting community deserves to be treated with fairness, respect, and common sense, not punished through excessive fees and creeping restrictions.

Labor has scheduled a staggering increase in duck and quail hunting licence fees from $53 per adult in 2024 to $250 by 2029 - a 400% hike that is completely unjustified and out of touch with regional and recreational communities.

What makes this even more concerning is that the 2023 Select Committee on Bird Hunting made no recommendation to ban duck hunting or impose massive fee increases. Yet Labor has pushed ahead anyway, ignoring due process and the will of the Select Committee.

Many hunters rightly see this as an attempt to ban hunting by stealth - not through a transparent, inclusive process and open debate, but through pricing lawful participants out of their traditions and rights.

Compliance isn’t just for hunter’s benefit; it is for the whole community and therefore should be a public responsibility.

The Liberals’ will reverse Labor’s fee increase. This policy will save hunters around $200 per year, support responsible recreation, and ensure the continued protection and sustainability of native bird stocks through proper, evidence-based management.

Law-abiding hunters are not the problem and they should never be treated like one.

This is part of our plan for a more affordable South Australia.
