Unlocking Family Homes with Downsizing

Unlocking Family Homes with Downsizing

Ensuring families and couples are in the right size home.

What we are proposing...

Downsizers looking to move into a smaller home will be given a boost with a one-off stamp duty concession of $15,000, if a Hurn Liberal Government is elected.

Adelaide is the second least affordable to buy in Australia, as well as the sixth least affordable city to buy in the world.

Stamp duty continues to be a growing burden for all South Australian’s purchasing property – and one which is a barrier for those looking to downsize.

Under the Liberals' plan, those moving out of their existing home will pay $15,000 less stamp-duty on their next home purchase, up to a property value of $1.2 million.

The incentive is designed to create much needed movement in the housing market, unlocking thousands of homes for younger families.

This policy will ensure that we get families and couples in houses which are the right size for them.

Not only will a Hurn Liberal Government provide support for older South Australians to downsize with this incentive, but our policy to scrap Stamp Duty for first home buyers will also help young South Australians enter the housing market.

This is part of our plan for a more affordable South Australia.
