Establishing a Construction and Industry Commissioner

Establishing a Construction and Industry Commissioner

Making our construction industry a safer place to work.

What we are proposing...

In recent years, the construction industry has shown its vulnerability to illegal activities.

Union links to bikie gangs, as well as criminals being awarded government-funded projects, is undermining the safety of our construction industry.

You don't have to look too far to other states, where union influence is left unchecked, results in illegal and unsafe activity.

South Australia needs to establish a Construction Industry Commissioner to act for the fairness and safety of all workers.

The Liberal Opposition has already introduced a bill to Parliament which would see this role established.

The Commissioner will have the power to resolve complaints, compel individuals to provide information that the Commissioner requires to fulfill their duties, and direct matters to State and Federal authorities.

The establishment of a Commissioner will ensure the fair treatment of building and construction industry participants.

This is part of our plan for safer suburbs and stronger communities.
