Switching Adelaide On After Dark

Switching Adelaide On After Dark

Establishing The Office of the Night Time Economy

What we are proposing...

A new Liberal Government will switch on Adelaide’s nightlife all year round, with the establishment of a dedicated office and Ministerial portfolio to support the hospitality industry.

Events held in Adelaide bring with them increased economic activity and tourism, but we need to maintain this momentum throughout the year.

In recent years, we have seen South Australian hospitality businesses close almost weekly, and recent reports have showed business confidence in our state are the lowest in the nation.

Having a team, commissioner and a Minister all working with the sector to activate our night life will boost activity in regional centres and suburban nightlife precincts.

The Office for the Night Time Economy’s first task would be an urgent review into the red tape and regulation holding back our hospitality industry and unlock the city’s full after-dark potential.

The Office will take a proactive approach to ensuring consistency of events across the year, including creating a data platform to monitor economic activity so that any improvements are evidence-based.

This will attract more local and interstate visitors, support small business and boost jobs.

With a focus on the whole ecosystem around our State’s nightlife, we will improve safety, public transport options and provide general business support to attract investment in after dark businesses.

This is part of our plan for safer suburbs and stronger communities.
