A new Liberal Government will subsidise child car restraint fittings for South Australian families.
As South Australians, we know the importance of protecting our loved ones, especially when they’re on the road, exploring the wide open spaces of our beautiful regions or heading to school, sport, or family gatherings.
We all believe that every child deserves to be safe when travelling. Sadly, research shows that up to 80% of child restraints are not being used correctly, putting children at 7 times greater risk of injury or death in the event of a crash.
Professional fittings currently cost between $35 - $75 per seat, meaning many families have no choice but to risk incorrect installation.
We believe cost should not be a barrier to safety. All South Australians should feel comfortable knowing their child restraint has been correctly installed by accredited restraint fitters.
The State Government has received tens of millions in revenue from mobile phone detection cameras. We believe this money should be wisely reinvested in road safety initiatives just like this one.
Let's work together to keep our children safe in the car and reduce preventable deaths and injuries on our roads. This is part of our plan for safer suburbs and stronger communities, and a more affordable South Australia.
