Rapid rollout of 250 New Beds
Rapid rollout of 250 New Beds
A Hurn Liberal Government will roll out 250 beds to South Australia’s overwhelmed health system by establishing five Transition Care Centres.
The centres, which will be located in both metropolitan and regional areas, will provide support to patients who no longer require a hospital bed but are awaiting appropriate long-term care and support.
There will be a focus on the rapid refurbishment of facilities with existing health infrastructure to ensure the beds are online as soon as possible.
Our public hospitals are at breaking point and this plan will help provide some urgent relief.
This is a very practical solution that we can roll-out quickly to help ease the bed-block clogging up the system.
There are buildings sitting vacant that could be put to much better use to ease the pressure. The more we can help patients to get the right care at the right time, the better our whole system will be.
If elected, we will get on with the job of opening up Transition Care Centres while also planning for the current Women’s and Children’s Hospital site to remain a state-owned health precinct in the long term.
Under the Liberal plan, the State Government would fund the establishment of each centre, with the operational costs to be shared in a public-private partnership.
This is part of our plan for a better health system.
