Energising our main streets.
Energising our main streets.
Main streets are the heartbeat of regional towns and the Hurn Liberal team has a plan to keep them beating strong. If elected in March, we will establish a $12 million ‘Main Street Activation Fund’ for regional councils to use on initiatives that support a thriving business and social community in their town. The fund is designed to be used for projects that energise main streets across regional South Australia. A thriving main street is an essential part of every community and we’re proud to support locals with ideas to create excitement in their towns, this could include upgrades to building facades, putting on pop-up events, investment in street-art, more outdoor dining spaces or activating empty shopfronts. A bustling main street not only fosters community pride but also stimulates the local economy by attracting visitors and supporting small businesses. A dedicated activation fund empowers local councils to preserve the unique character of our towns while promoting sustainability and accessibility for all residents. This investment is costed at $3 million a year over four years, with eligible councils able to apply for a competitive tender process for grants of up to $500,000 each.
