Fixing Infrastructure at all Schools

Fixing Infrastructure at all Schools

Doubling funding to non-government school capital works.

What we are proposing...

If elected, a Hurn Liberal Government will double annual grants for capital works at non-government schools across South Australia, boosting funding by $12.7 million a year.

All students should be able to have great facilities and reach their full potential, regardless of where they attend school.

Non-government schools educate around 40% of young people in South Australia, or 110,000 students every year. Many of those schools are dealing with enrolment growth, accessibility challenges or ageing facilities.

While parents and communities provide the majority capital funding for independent schools, the costs of these works have increased dramatically and it is only fair that the modest State Government capital funding also keeps pace.

The increased funding - to be split equally between Catholic and Independent schools - will help improve learning spaces for students and teachers.

Grants can be used for a range of purposes, including refurbishment and construction works, outdoor learning areas, playgrounds and air conditioning.

This funding comes on top of the $120 million investment we will make in basic maintenance and infrastructure at government schools, which is three times what Labor was promising in its latest Budget.

This is part of a clear plan to strengthen school communities and create better learning environments for students and teachers across South Australia.

This is part of our plan for safer suburbs and stronger communities.
