Solar for Renters

Solar for Renters

Subsidising batteries and solar panels for homes.

What we are proposing...

Renters in South Australia are having to battle with paying some of the highest energy and rental costs in the nation, with very little support in helping them tackle the high cost of energy.

If elected, a Hurn Liberal Government will introduce a $20 million Solar for Renters Scheme, providing landlords and renters with subsidy and no-interest loans to install solar panels.

Renters and their landlords can apply for rebates up to a maximum of $2,000 to install solar panels on their property, with the option to apply for an interest-free loan equivalent to the rebate amount, taking the total of support up to $4,000.

Landlords and renters will be required to have a Rental Provider-Renter Agreement signed by both parties to ensure the renter can enjoy the benefits of solar.

Approximately 240,000 households in South Australia are renters, and this fund could benefit close to 10,000 of those households to reduce their reliance on the grid and lower their power bills.

The Liberal plan will take more South Australians off the grid and give them control over their own energy future.

This is part of our plan for a more affordable South Australia.
