Preparing SA farmers for bushfires.
Preparing SA farmers for bushfires.
A Hurn Liberal Government will deliver $6 million dollars to our farmers to help them protect their properties and communities from bushfires.
We will extend the current farm firefighting units grant program for another four years and triple the amount of money available from $500,000 to $1.5 million a year.
Our farmers are so often the first on the scene when a bushfire breaks out, dropping everything to protect their neighbours, their communities, and their own livelihoods. Many also serve as dedicated volunteers in their local CFS.
That’s why this investment matters. It’s about making sure the people who step up in our toughest moments have the safe, reliable equipment they need to do the job and come home safely.
For many farmers, the cost of essential firefighting equipment is simply out of reach. That financial burden can leave families and communities dangerously exposed when fire strikes.
Farm firefighting units are not a luxury - they are a lifeline, helping protect crops, livestock, homes and hard-earned livelihoods right across South Australia.
Our farmers never think twice about rolling up their sleeves for their communities, and they deserve a government that will do the same for them.
We will also undertake an assessment on the criteria used to prioritise the funding, as currently there is no consideration given to proximity from central firefighting resources. We would ensure that future grant rounds give consideration to farmers who live further from these resources.
This is part of our plan for safer suburbs and stronger communities.
